  There are numerous beautiful castles, mansions and palaces in Ljubljana and in the Central Slovenia region. The most famous among these are for the most part renovated and open to the public.

  At the turn of the 20th century, a new artistic style referred to by several different names including Art Nouveau contributed significantly to the appearance of a number of European cities. In Ljubljana, it developed under the influence of the Viennese Secession (hence the local name "secesija") and found expression mainly in architecture.
