Antoni Clavé: A World of Art. 1934-2002

Antoni Clavé is one of the most renowned pioneers of modernism in Spanish art. He was born in Barcelona in 1913 and died in Saint-Tropez in 2005. His work was influenced by a number of avant-garde painting movements, including cubism, futurism and expressionism, and the aesthetics of contemporary graphic design. The Ljubljana exhibition of Clavé's work brings together a diverse selection of collages, film posters, set designs and canvases.

At the beginning of his career, Antoni Clavé was an extraordinarily talented newspaper illustrator, who soon turned into a promising film poster designer. During the Spanish Civil War, while in exile in France, he dedicated himself to printmaking and painting. His most important creations are collages made from bits of different materials, newspaper clippings and the like. In 1984, a solo exhibition of Clavé's work represented Spain at the Venice Biennale.
